Teaser Trailer for ‘The Raid 2’ Goes Heavy on Action
We’ve been waiting for it since The Raid: Redemption shocked everyone in 2011—and it’s finally here! The first teaser trailer for the forthcoming Raid 2: Berandal has been released, and it’s as violent and visceral as you’d expect. There is little plot and not a single word of dialogue, but there is plenty of action.
The film picks up where the first installment left off. Iko Uwais, reprising his role as police officer Rama, goes undercover inside a Jakarta crime syndicate to expose corruption within the police force.
The teaser clip starts with Rama in jail taking out his anger on a chalk outline of a man scrawled on a concrete wall. Between punches, we see glimpses of a war that is spilling out in different locations, highlighting the main difference between this movie and its predecessor, which took place inside an apartment building.
Writer and director Gareth Evans told Collider, “It’s got the same kind of action beats in terms of the style of the action, but our approach this time is to go way more cinematic with it. We’re expanding the universe out. We’re taking the story out of that little claustrophobic setting and putting it out into the streets and into the high end gangsters in Jakarta. It’s a lot bigger in scope.”
The Raid 2: Berandal will be released next year. Reports suggest that Sony Classics may release the martial arts thriller in theaters stateside.
