The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale – Team Lesnar Vs. Team Dos Santos
In The Ultimate Fighter 13 championship bout, welterweight finalists Ramsey Nijem of Team Dos Santos [4-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC] and Tony Ferguson of Team Lesnar [10-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC] will square off. In addition, semifinalists Chris Cope [4-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC] and Chuck O’Neil [8-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC] will meet in the octagon.
The grand finale—scheduled to air on Spike TV on Saturday, June 4, at 9:00 p.m. EDT—takes place at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, and the main card will include a Clay Guida vs. Anthony Pettis lightweight bout.
Nijem, the son of a Palestinian refugee, is a veteran of the Utah fight circuit who punched his ticket to the finale with wins over Charlie Rader, Clay Harvison and Cope. As Team Dos Santos’ fourth-round pick, he was one of the show’s surprises. Following his string of exhibition victories, he’s looking for his fourth straight pro victory.
Ferguson, an NCWA national champion wrestler from California, got to the finals by defeating Justin Edwards, Ryan McGillivray and O’Neil. Prior to TUF, the Team Lesnar third-round pick had won six of his previous seven pro MMA bouts, five via knockout. In fact, of the hard-hitting fighter’s 10 career wins, nine have come via stoppage.
Cope is a former junior college basketball player and long-time martial artist from California. Currently based at The Arena in San Diego, the UC-Santa Barbara graduate works for a law firm. But on the side, Team Lesnar’s fourth-round pick has posted a 4-1 pro record—which included a second-round head-kick TKO of Ron Keslar on the preliminary card of “Strikeforce and M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Werdum.” On TUF, he defeated Javier Torres and Shamar Bailey before losing to Nijem in the semifinals.
O’Neil is a one-time Bellator fighter based in Massachusetts. He was a late addition to TUF 13, joining the cast as an injury replacement for Myles Jury on Team Lesnar. Although he was submitted by Zach Davis in an opening-round matchup, he got second life as a wild-card pick, defeating Javier Torres and Davis before falling to Ferguson in the semifinals.
