The next horror feature from M. Night Shyamalan, The Visit, appears to be just the sort of unusual and imaginative thriller fans have come to expect from the filmmaker.

Shyamalan wrote the screenplay and directed this terrifying flick, originally called Sundowning, about a brother and sister who travel to their grandparents’ remote farm in Pennsylvania for a weeklong visit. On the surface, the kids seem to be in a completely secure environment—safe and sound in the country with grandma and grandpa—until you find out that the elderly couple are involved in dark and disturbing activities, making it unlikely the children will ever return home.

Actress Kathryn Hahn (Parks and Recreation) stars as the children’s single mother, and Ed Oxenbould, best known for Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, plays her young son. Benjamin Kanes (Birdman) plays the father. The cast also features Shelby Lackman (How to Get Away with Murder) and Boardwalk Empire castmates Peter McRobbie and Jon Rainey.

It has been a while since the iconic Shyamalan had a hit film. Some believe this is because he got away from his roots with large scale, commercial flicks like the disappointing After Earth. The Visit is more in keeping with the smaller, more artistic films, such as Sixth Sense, on which he built his career.

Shyamalan is also producing the picture, along with Jason Blum, who has a reputation for making successful movies on a micro budget—namely Paranormal Activity and Insidious.

The Visit will arrive in theaters nationwide on Sept. 11, 2015.
