CyHi the Prince, Ivy League: Kick Back

CyHi the Prince will introduce the latest mixtape in his Ivy League Club series this week. Kick Back finds the Atlanta rapper once again attempting to gain traction after a series of setbacks. Although he has been lauded by hip-hop insiders and has a recording contract with links to Def Jam, Konvict Music and G.O.O.D. Music, the MC has yet to drop an official solo album. Last year he offered up a few versions on Cruel Summer, but he has for the most part remained quiet. Let’s hope 2013 is different. Be sure to check the remix to “A-Town,” featuring verses from Travis Porter and 2 Chainz.

Uptown XO, Colour de Grey

Uptown XO, one-third of DC’s Diamond District, will release his first solo Mello Music Group project, Colour de Grey this week. The album is a follow-up to the similarly titled mixtape, The Color Grey, and once again finds the rapper eschewing shallow raps on wealth and fame for a more intellectual set about the world around us. “We’re going to talk about something different,” raps XO on his single “Finding My Way,” and he keeps that promise throughout the A.B. the Pro-produced LP.

Oh No, Disrupted Ads

Oh No is slated to release several projects this year. First up is his fifth solo effort, Disrupted Ads, a follow-up to 2012’s ohnomite. The MC will tackle previously unreleased instrumental tracks on the album, complete with guest verses from the likes of Rapsody, Chali2na, Blu, Georgia Anne Muldrow and frequent collaborator Alchemist. Drawing inspiration from errant advertisements that corrupt the public’s perception of reality, Oh No aims to spit rhymes that will make listeners hit the rewind button for a second listen.
