WATCH: 300-Pound Bartolo Colon Is Crushing Winter Workouts, Moving Like a Beautiful Gazelle
I’m not going to mince words here—Bartolo Colon wasn’t in the best of shape.
I know it, you know it and Colon knows it.
That’s why the 17-year MLB veteran is working hard this off-season to get into peak physical condition. Colon has been training in his native country of the Dominican Republic, and he’s really been getting after it. MLB reporter Jesse Sanchez recorded Bartolo’s workouts over the past couple days and posted them on Twitter, so let’s take a minute to break down his training:
You’ve seen the Trout tire workout and Hector Santiago kiss/push-up/sit-up combo. It’s Bartolo Colon in the DR time! pic.twitter.com/G6LxOX5D9e

It’s mesmerizing! The fluidity! The explosiveness! No wonder they call him Big Sexy. Seriously though, that’s not bad at all. For a 5-foot-11, 283-pound 42-year-old, those are some pretty solid Rope Slams.
Your daily dose of Bartolo Colon putting in some work in the DR. You’re welcome. https://t.co/DSM5t32L2f #Mets pic.twitter.com/MZKCwxRSP6

Alright, not bad, not bad. Could he have moved through the cones faster? Sure. Does he look like he should invest in a manssiere? Maybe. But his form isn’t terrible, and he’s working hard.

Band-Resisted Jumping Jacks? I can’t say I’ve ever seen those. With drum-heavy music blaring in the background, Bartolo looks like he is performing a traditional Latin dance. But he’s moving pretty smoothly for a dude pushing three bills, and he doesn’t look like he’s gasping for breath.
It’s tempting to have a laugh at Tolo’s expense, but I cannot deny that he is in exceptional shape for a man of his age and size. Props to Colon for training so hard. Long live Bartolo!
