Watch Patrick Mahomes Throw a Football 62 Mph
Certain quarterback traits can be wildly overrated simply because they’re pleasing to the eye, but it’s hard not to enjoy former Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ arm strength on simply a surface level. The ability to launch the ball 80 yards won’t help you win football games in the NFL, and eye-popping velocity on your passes won’t ensure success either. But man, it’s a blast to watch Mahomes spin it.
With just over a week until Mahomes learns where he’ll be playing on Sundays, the gunslinger visited the set of the NFL Network for a throwing contest against David Carr, the former No. 1 pick of the Houston Texans. They were to compete to see how fast they could throw the football, and after a couple rounds of getting their velocity up from 52-53 mph to 58, Mahomes did this.

Yes, the throw sails over Heath Evans’ head, and yes, it would’ve been uncatchable in an actual game. But that’s not the point. The point, my friends, is that Mahomes has the ability to throw a football faster than just about anyone in this draft class, and to see that type of speed up close is breathtaking. No wonder he’s been garnering comparisons to Brett Favre.
