Willem Dafoe: ‘Finding Dory’ Will Be Even Better Than ‘Finding Nemo’
Now that we’re past the initial shame of being more excited about this movie than our younger siblings, it’s OK to stay up-to-date on it, right? With that justification in mind, Willem Dafoe has confirmed that he will reprise his role as Gill in Pixar’s Finding Nemo sequel, entitled Finding Dory.
Talking with Total Film, the actor revealed that he’s already started working on the project, and he expects the sequel to exceed its predecessor. “It’s even better than the first. It’s fantastic,” he said. “It’s good to say I think it’s going to be better than the first; that’s good advertising. It’s difficult to repeat a success and so many years afterwards, but it’s really cool. I’ve done one session so far and I just am going to have such a good time.”
Dafoe did not reveal any plot details. But as the title implies, the movie will focus on fan-favorite Dory, the forgetful tang fish voiced by comedian Ellen Degeneres. The story will begin about one year after Nemo reunites with his father and will reportedly follow Dory’s attempts to reconnect with her family. Speaking of Nemo, the clownfish will also make an appearance along with his overprotective father, Marlin. They will be joined by the rest of the Tank Gang and by Dory’s parents, Jenny (Diane Keaton) and Charlie (Eugene Levy).
Finding Nemo grossed over $900 million worldwide. Finding Dory was initially slated to reach theaters Nov. 25, 2015, but it’s been pushed back to June 17, 2016. Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur will take the prime Holiday 2015 spot.
