Inside the Rankings: Oregon Women’s Track and Field
For more than a hundred years, the University of Oregon has been a destination for top track and field athletes, earning the nickname, “Track Town, USA.” At least one Oregon track athlete has participated in every Summer Olympics since 1908; one of the school’s former track coaches, Bill Bowerman, co-founded Nike; and the Ducks’ track complex, Hayward Field, has become hallowed ground in the sport, hosting everything from NCAA Championships to U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials.
In recent years, the Oregon women’s track team has added to this rich tradition by winning the last two NCAA indoor track championships and taking second place in the outdoor championships three times in a row. More than 20 past, current and future women’s track athletes participated in the USA Track & Field Championships this past summer, proving that the Oregon women’s track team is built for long-term success.
