How to Look Good After a Workout: Style Tips
Style doesn’t have to be sacrificed just because you exercise. If you have a busy lifestyle, you may not have time to shower and change, put on fresh makeup, and still make it to work. But fear not. Follow these guidelines, and no one will know that you just came from the gym. (Are you a male? Check out Heart & Sole Make Over an Athlete.)
Pre-Workout Style
Start with a fresh palette so that your transformation from the gym to the job is a smooth one. Use minimal makeup or none at all, and be sure to choose waterproof and sweatproof mascara. Foundation should include SPF 15 sunscreen, and wearing a pair of sunglasses will keep your eyes looking fresh. Wear a basic tank top or tee that can easily be layered under your normal attire. A headband will keep sweat out of your eyes and prevent your hair from swirling around your face.
Carry the Basics
Your gym bag should be stocked with your favorite styling products: extra hair ties and a hair brush to get your locks back in shape; and moist towelettes to wipe unruly sweat from your skin and minimize odor.
Plan Your Routine
If you only have 30 minutes for a workout, plan to cut it five minutes short so you can take a quick shower and style your hair and face. Look for all-in-one products, such as foundation with built-in concealer, or colors that can be used as eye shadow, blush, and lipstick. Consider a short, wash-and-wear hairstyle to save more time.
Post-Workout Style
Have a simple but stylish outfit ready to go when your workout is over. A cotton undershirt will absorb any leftover sweat, and a loose-fitting blouse on top will keep you cool and comfortable. Be sure to pick nice shoes that will feel good on your feet. You’ve already pushed your muscles hard; you don’t want to spend the next few hours in ill-fitting heels or boots that will stress them out more. Secure your hair out of your face so that everyone can see your natural glow and so your hair doesn’t cling to the back of your neck.
Everyone has their own personal style, and athletes are no exception. You can care for both your fitness and your appearance as long as you take the time to make a plan. Enjoy your workout, then enjoy the self confidence that your workout brings to a stylish new you.
