Man Holds a Plank for 4+ Hours, Breaks World Record
Ah, the Plank. An exercise that gets exponentially more difficult (and painful) the longer you hold it. For most athletes, a two- or three-minute Plank is pretty impressive.
But how about a 266-minute Plank?
That’s how long Mao Weidong, a SWAT team officer from Beijing, held the core-crushing position. Weidong’s mark of 4 hours and 26 minutes shattered the previous Plank world record of 3 hours and 7 minutes.
Just how long is 4 hours and 26 minutes? Weidong can plank for an entire flight from Detroit to Los Angeles. Or for the full run time of the extended edition of Lord of The Rings: Return of the King. He nearly could’ve planked for the entirety of the Royals’ recent 12-inning win over the Athletics.
Weidong completed the Herculean feat last week in front of a small crowd. No word yet on whether he is still sore.
