With an outrageous first half against Boston College this afternoon, Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson made history. Coming into the matinee matchup, Jackson had amassed 996 rushing yards, and he needed just four more to become the first Cardinals quarterback ever to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season. He did that almost immediately, blasting BC’s defense for a 69-yard rushing touchdown minutes into the first quarter. It was a run in which Jackson showed off the full depth of his speed.

Before the 2016 season began, Jackson was clocked running a 4.42 40-Yard Dash. The fastest quarterback at the 2016 NFL Combine? Louisiana Tech’s Jeff Driskell, who ran a 4.56. Michael Vick, whom Jackson has been widely compared to, ran a 4.33 at Virginia Tech’s Pro Day back in 2001. We don’t know what speed Jackson reached at the peak of this sprint, only that every Boston College defender who pursued him eventually faded from view because Jackson left them in his dust.

He did it again in the third quarter with a 53-yard scamper to the end zone after executing a cutback that would make most elite running backs drool. Again, there isn’t a single BC defender in the frame by the time Jackson reaches paydirt.

Jackson was taken out at the end of the 3rd quarter, with Louisville up 52-7. His statline: 231 yards passing, 185 yards rushing and seven total touchdowns. You cannot hope to slow Jackson down, because once he sees daylight, you will never, ever catch him.
