Young Thug Announces ‘Hy!£UN35’ Arriving in August
Young Thug’s long-awaited major label debut, Hy!£UN35, will arrive later this summer according to 300 Entertainment.
“We believe [Thug] is a unique artist who will have a special place in the future of Hip-Hop,” said the label’s exec Lyor Cohen.
The road to his first album has been a bumpy one for sure. Thugga first intended to call the album Carter 6 as a tribute to his favorite rapper, Lil Wayne, and his famed Carter series. However, the New Orleans rapper threatened him with a lawsuit, and subsequently dissed him at various stops during his Release Partiez tour. So, out came Barter 6, a retail mixtape, which was well-received by critics but didn’t quite live up to Thug’s billing as the second-coming of Weezy with fans.
Hy!£UN35 (pronounced Hi-Tunes) will give him a chance to reclaim the title and cement his position. Producer Wheezy, who is responsible for most of the beats on Barter 6, talked with Complex recently about the 22-year-old’s recording process and said the upcoming LP would be better than his latest release.
“Slime can go in the booth and a do a song within five minutes off the top of the head and it will come out brilliant,” said Wheezy. “Two verses and everything will make sense. He’s a fast-paced worker. It really helps my craft because he works so fast I have to keep up. The Hy!£UN35 is Barter 6 times 10 and overdosing on drugs.”
Hy!£UN35 will be released Aug. 28.
